According to Burns, transforming leadership is a process in which leaders and followers help each other to advance to a higher level of moral and motivation (Transformational Leadership). This approach to leadership create significant change in the life of people. It causes a shift in values and perceptions, and a change in expectations and goals for employees and organizations (Transformational Leadership). There are four factors to transformational leadership: (known as the four is) idealized influence, inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation, and individual consideration. Four Factors: Idealized influence: Transformational leaders have the opportunity to be the role models to the followers of the organization (Transformational Leadership: The Transformation of Managers and Associates1.). Transformational leaders have trust in their follower as well as followers have trust in them. Lastly, these leaders build trust and confidence in their followers. Inspirational motivation:Transformational leaders communicate their vision to the organization and motivate followers to reach goals. Transformational leaders demonstrate their commitment towards the vision and the goals of the company, before asking followers to commit to the vision and the goals (Transformational Leadership: The Transformation of Managers and Associates1.). Transformational leaders advance organizations by motivating followers to work together to reach organizational goals. Intellectual stimulation: Transformational leaders foster an environment where followers develop their own solutions. They utilize Sanfords theory of Challenge and Support theory. Transformational leaders are able to both challenge and support their employees. Also, they determine each individuals readiness, before they can give the appropriate level of challenge and support. Transformational leaders encourage followers to approach problems in new and creative ways (Leadership Project Management Champions). Individual consideration: Transformational leaders consider each follower as an individual. Transformational leaders show more attention to certain followers than others (Leadership Project Management Champions). They provide a supportive environment and give feedback and advice to the followers. Also, transformational leaders, create environments where followers feel comfortable giving feedback to them. Pros: Ability to develop a vision for a companyorganization and encourage and inspire individuals to believe in the vision.
